Phoenix 1 Food Truck Review

Overall rating: 4/5

After devouring  a couple of the best grilled cheese sandwiches from P.A. & Gargantua I’ve ever tasted, I thought I’d say hi to their neighbors. Perhaps its just my own perception, but Phoenix 1 seemed to be the underdog in the amicable street food battle vs. the Gargantua truck so I had to give them some support.

The honest truth is that I had no idea what to expect from Phoenix 1 since I couldn’t even locate a description of what they served online. No previous reviews, no menus, etc…I was going in fresh!

Welcome the Naanwich!

After briefly perusing their menu, I decided to order the Tandoori Chicken Naanwich ($8): deliciously tender tandoori chicken, marinated cucumber and carrots, coriander, raita (an indian yogurt / herb condiment), all wrapped up in an incredibly fresh, warm piece of naan bread. If they make their own naan, big kudos to Phoenix 1. The indian flavors were as authentic as I know them to be (although I haven’t yet been to India) and the portion size could be compared to a typical Shish Taouk sandwich (and someone who’s very hungry could easily finish 2 for lunch).

Allison decided to order the Braised Pork version ($8): pulled pork cooked to perfection and covered in sweet bbq sauce, topped with pickled red cabbage, a slice of white cheese, and of course all bundled nicely in their fresh naan. The pork was well marinated and saucy (as pulled pork should be), but possibly too sweet for me. After stealing some bites, I managed to get a few drops of bbq sauce on my shirt, so be careful if you’re grabbing one of these on your lunch break at work!

I noticed while we were eating the food truck dudes kept looking in our direction. They wanted to know if we enjoyed the food. You could tell they’re passionate about what they do and serving great food makes them happy. I smiled with a mouth full of tandoori chicken and gave them a thumbs up.

In conclusion: Phoenix 1 was a pleasant surprise offering a variety of sandwiches wrapped in freshly baked naan. Their friendly staff cooks some tasty dishes and I wouldn’t mind bumping into them again soon. We noticed an interesting dessert on the menu that we’ll try next time: a naanwich w/ chocolate & banana covered in sweet syrup. My mouth is already watering.

  1. Good day

Yesterday my daughters and I were at the Runforcure Breat Cancer run.
The food truck Phoenix was there and my daughters each had a naawrap. One had the pulled pork and the other had the chicken…….

    Both loved it.
